ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If I was on Team Hills Last Year do I still have to tryout?

Yes.  Prior participation is not a guarantee that you will make the Team this year.

Do I have to attend Every Practice and Tournament?

This is not PAL Lacrosse.  Summer Travel Lacrosse is highly competitive and the teams are playing to WIN.  In this regard, you cannot take your commitment to the team lightly.  You must attend all practices and tournaments.  Failure to advise the coaching staff of your unavailability for a tournament or repeated absences from practices and/or tournaments may result in your removal from the team and forfeiture of dues paid.  If you cannot make the commitment to the Team, you should not take a roster spot.

How Many Players Will Be On A Team?

Ideally we will have 6 Attack, 9 Middies, 6 Defensemen and 2 Goalies per team.  This number may be reduced in the discretion of the coaching staff if the talent level of the players attending the tryout does not warrant their selection to the Team.  A player will not be selected just to fill a roster spot.  Notwithstanding, a number of alternates will be selected by the coaching staff who will be permitted to practice with the team, but can only attend tournaments if they are invited by the Head Coach due to injury or unavailability of a player on the team.  This would give a player who did not have the initial skills to make the Team an opportunity to improve under the direction of the middle and high school coaches of our district.

Will There Be Equal Playing Time for All Players?

No.  Decisions regarding playing time at various tournament rest with Head Coach of the respective teams. It is our goal to win and in that regard the Head Coach will be playing those players who are best suited to meet that goal.  Every player on the Team will play, but playing time will not be equal.

Who Will the Coaches Be?

The directors are currently evaluating all candidates and will publish the list of coaches in the near future.

If I Played Last Year Can I Wear the Same Uniform?

Maybe.  We will be using the same uniform design for the 2008 season.  An issue will arise if two players who played last year have the same number.  One of them will need to change their number.  If an agreement cannot be worked out between the players, the decision will be made based upon seniority.  The older returning player keeps his number.  In the event new numbers need to be assigned to a returning or new player, we will give the player an opportunity to make a request for a number.  However, that is not a guarantee that the player will receive the number requested.  After taking your request into consideration, you will be assigned one by Team Hills and that decision will be final.

What will it Cost to be on the Team?

The fee for the summer is $725.00.  Included in this fee are the following:  Uniform, Practices as scheduled by the coaches and 5 Tournaments.  For U-17, certain recruiting venues charge additional fees which must be paid directly by the player.  The fees for these recruiting venues (i.e. $650.00 for Hotbeds) are in addition to the Team Hills Fees.  Alternate Players will be charged $450.00.  If an Alternate Player is invited to a tournament he will not have to pay additional fees.

Will I Still Have to Pay $725.00 or $450.00 as an Alternate If I am Using the Same Uniform As Last Year?

Yes.  In the event you do not need to purchase a new uniform the fee will still be $725.00 per player or $450.00 per alternate.  However, the players using last year’s uniform will receive a Lacrosse Bag from Team Hills at no additional charge.  For new players to the Team or those returning players wishing to purchase a new uniform, you may purchase a bag.

How Can I Buy Team Hills Apparel?

We are setting up a link on the web site so that merchandise can be purchased directly by you.

What is the Practice Schedule?

The Practice schedule will be set by the coaches of the various teams.  All questions and communications regarding practices should be directed to the coaches.  In general, practices will commence in the middle of May and continue until the last week of July.  During that time frame each coach is expected to conduct a minimum of 16 practices.  In the discretion of the coaches, more practices may be scheduled.  For High School players the practices may start later as the coaches and players may have obligations to the High School and Playoffs which supersede those to Team Hills.

How Will I Find Out About the Tournament Schedule?

Once the tournaments we are attending are set, that information will be posted on the web site.  You can get to the website by clicking on the Team Hills Link after going to hillslacrosse.com.

During the week prior to the tournament, the schedules will be posted.  Most tournament directors do not post game times until 1 or 2 days prior to the commencement of the tournament.  As soon as the information regarding game times is received, it will be disseminated to the coaches.  Do not send e-maila or make phone calls asking for the tournament game schedule.  It will be given to you as soon as Team Hills receives it.   The Head Coach of each team will be responsible for communicating practice and game information with the players and parents.  If possible, we will post the information on the web site as well.

In What Hotels Will We Be Staying?

We have a service to book room blocks for us in advance.  We will keep teams in the same hotels.  At some tournaments the fields may be spread out over a 15 mile radius.  Most tournaments do not announce the venue in which a particular team will be playing until they announce the game times.  Since there are hundreds of teams converging on the area, we are not able to wait until the venue is announced to book rooms.  This could result in a particular team having to travel up to 45 minutes to get to a tournament venue if our educated guess was wrong.
